Goal

4th AUGUST EXPLOSION IN BEIRUT - DISASTER RELIEF FUNDRAISING

UK TARGET $140,000 - We've raised approx $80k so far, $60k still to go.

On 4 August 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the port of the city of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, exploded, causing at least 200 deaths, 3 reported missing, 6,500 injuries, US$10–15 billion in property damage, and leaving an estimated 300,000 people have been left homeless. 50,000 houses, nine major hospitals and 178 schools have been damaged.

Rotary International is a humanitarian organisation with over 1.2 million members who are volunteers in in an extensive and trusted network of Rotary Clubs, working tirelessly to make the world a better place.

Putney Rotary Club is co-ordinating a Beirut Disaster Relief campaign in the UK, with the Lead Host Club Rotary Club of Beirut Cosmopolitan in Lebanon. Clubs all across Rotary Great Britain and Ireland are pulling together to raise funds, as well as many individuals who are helping the people of Beirut. Please join us!

RC Beirut Cosmopolitan is focusing on sustainable long-term priorities in the poorest areas:

1. Repair & supply of equipment for Karantina Hospital paediatric and neonatal operating theatre and paediatric wing  (2 Rotary Clubs).

2. Window & door repairs  for those who cannot afford it in Karantina area (4 Rotary Clubs) $3000 can repair up to 50 homes.

3. Psychological and Trauma support for children, in collaboration with NGO's

4. Collect Recyclable Materials (glass, aluminium, wood and other metals) with Rotaract and Interact Clubs

100% of funds raised on Donorbox (only with card payment processing fees removed) will be given directly to Rotary Clubs in Beirut. They are working closely with local NGO's, the hospitals and relief organisations to make sure the people who are most affected by the blast, get helped.

The clean-up is ongoing and the rebuilding of Beirut's infrastructure, hospitals, schools, shops and homes will take some time. If we all pull together, we can help the people of Beirut rise again.

Rotarians are volunteers, so 100% of funds go directly to the projects we are working on.

We thank all the individuals who have donated to the project thus far.

Putney Rotary Club, based in SW London, UK, is a diverse and enthusiastic group of volunteers. We uplift our community by working on local projects and partner with Rotary Clubs across the world on global international projects. Find us at www.putneyrotary.org.uk.

Putney Rotary are accepting bank transfers directly into our charity account,
