PULSE International does the 4x4x48 Challenge!

PULSE International is a medical non-profit that was founded by two nurses, Lisa Armour and Lauren Huber, both of whom are Gym AnTrim members. PULSE helps provide under-resourced locations with medical supplies and healthcare education. Thus far, they have shipped life-saving equipment to a government hospital in Lugazi, Uganda, as well as funded a mask initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic. During a trip in 2019, they helped set up a new emergency department within the hospital, as well as trained over 30 hospital staff in CPR and emergency response training.

Funded by PULSE, a local seamstress made over 250 aprons and masks that were distributed to staff at Kawolo Hospital during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

They have also shipped equipment to government clinics and nursing schools in Lusaka, Zambia. In 2022, PULSE travelled to Zambia to distribute the previously shipped medical supplies and immediate life support training to the staff.

All the money raised will support the Kaparu Mission Rural Health Centre and University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Zambia, both of which are massively under-resourced. The Kaparu Mission Rural Health Centre is located 2 hours from the capital, Lusaka, and serves upwards of 10,000 people. The local community is made up of some of the poorest in the area, and the clinic is its only means of medical assistance. The nearest hospital is 45 km away, which proves too far and expensive for the local people to attend. The clinic acts as a maternity unit for expectant mothers, as well as an emergency facility for the whole area. With only one clinical officer (doctor) and two nurses, the hospital is run by supportive staff and community-based volunteers. They have reached out to PULSE for some urgent help supplying their clinic with life-saving equipment. PULSE has collected ultrasound machines, X-ray machines, and neonatal incubators that are all packed and ready to be shipped, we just need your help getting it there!

University Teaching Hospital in Zambia is one of the biggest hospitals in the country, serving a population of approximately 2 million people. UTH provides clinical care through its five associated hospitals, including the Maternal and Newborn Hospitals. This hospital conducts at least 15,000 births a year. The neonate unit has a capacity to admit 60 newborns, but often finds admissions of up to 100. PULSE International has neonatal incubators and life support machines that are all packed and ready to be shipped, we just need your help getting it there!

Not only will life saving equipment be sent abroad, but your donations will help get life saving equipment right here at home. Gym AnTrim will be receiving its very own AED, a machine that is used to restore a normal heart rhythm when someone goes into sudden cardiac arrest. Having this device in the community could mean the difference between life and death. Gym AnTrim members with owners Suzanne Whan and Vinny McCormick.
