Goal
A group of medical volunteers of the Ukrainian American Community of Minnesota including a Ukrainian-born Minnesota ophthalmologist, Dr. Nataliya Danylkova, MD. initiated this fundraising campaign in order to obtain the protective eyewear for people in affected areas including civilian first responders, medics, or soldiers on the front lines.
Dr. Danylkova traveled to Poland during the first month of the full-scale war and witnessed the damage caused by the brutal tactics of our enemy: “Russians are constantly bringing death and wounds by bombing and shelling Ukrainian cities and villages. As a physician, I realize the enormous work that falls onto the shoulders of Ukrainian medical personnel. As an ophthalmologist, I understand how much damage those explosions with millions of shrapnel do to peoples’ eyes. These kind of injuries can lead to blindness. The most precious gift of sight is very fragile and is very easy to loose. The simple eye protection can go a long way.”
Ukraine needs a lot of help right now. International community and local people join forces to do what they can to mitigate the damage that this war causes.
We are grateful for the first donation of 300 pairs of protective glasses from the Pyramex company, one of the world leading providers of safety products. This was made possible thanks to the Women in Ophthalmology national organization.
Our goal is to buy 1,500 pairs of glasses. One pair costs between $30-$150.
The prevention of eye injury, a one pair of the eyewear can save the eyes of one Ukrainian soldier or one civilian. We are asking you to donate to this cause and help us raise the funds in order to purchase these protective glasses for the people of Ukraine.
Donations are processed through the Ukrainian American Community Center (UACC), the fiscal sponsor of StandWithUkraineMN. The UACC is a Minneapolis based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with vetted organizations experienced in getting aid to where it is needed.
