Preserving the Biodiversity of Tlachinoltepetl NPA
Tlachinoltepetl is a 1,800-hectare cloud forest Natural Protected Area in Chocamán, Veracruz — one of the smallest and least studied protected areas in the region. Working with local naturalist Ignacio and in formal collaboration with the Facultad de Biología of Universidad Veracruzana, Micratena is building the first verified molecular record of moths and beetles for this cloud forest.
What your donation supports:
🔬 Field sampling & molecular identification — specimens collected in Tlachinoltepetl will be analyzed by Dr. Beatriz at Universidad Veracruzana using DNA sequencing for precise taxonomic identification.
📋 SEMARNAT permit process — mandatory to legally sample inside a Natural Protected Area. Your donation helps cover the administrative and technical requirements to obtain it.
📖 Chocamán Insect Field Guide — already documented 240+ research-grade records, including two species listed as endangered in the United States. Your support expands this work.
Why it matters
In Mexico, insects are studied when they damage crops. Rarely to understand what we have. Almost never to protect it. Micratena and Universidad Veracruzana are here to change that — one specimen at a time.
