For years, the South Bend Bike Garage has been powered by dedicated volunteers who believe bicycles can create access, opportunity, and community. Together, we've built a place where neighbors can find affordable bicycles, help one another with repairs, learn new skills, volunteer their time, and keep our community moving.

Help Us Unlock a $50,000 Matching Grant

Thanks to a generous commitment from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County, we have an opportunity to hire our first part-time employee and expand what the Bike Garage can offer.

The Foundation has committed $25,000 annually over two years in matching funds to support this position.

What Your Donation Will Make Possible

Our first part-time Operations & Fundraising Coordinator will work alongside our volunteers to help accomplish four important goals:

1. Open our doors more often: Add regular Saturday morning hours and one additional weekly shift, making affordable bicycles, repairs, and assistance more accessible to our community.

2. Strengthen our volunteer community: Recruit, retain, and support volunteers through better coordination, communication, training, and resources.

3. Expand community programs: Develop opportunities that help individuals and families overcome financial and other barriers to accessing bicycles, including potential Earn-a-Bike initiatives and community partnerships.

4. Build sustainable fundraising: Strengthen relationships with donors, businesses, and community partners to develop reliable financial support for years to come.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 each year for the next two years, with the Foundation matching eligible donations dollar for dollar.Together, that's $100,000 to help grow and sustain the Bike Garage!

Powering Our Future

Our volunteers have built something special. Hiring our first employee isn't about replacing them. It's about giving them the support and resources to accomplish even more.Campaign contributions and matching funds will support the position's wages, associated employment costs, and essential resources. Our volunteer Board of Directors will oversee the investment and evaluate progress toward our goals.
