Our Story
On returning from our trip to Rwanda, we decided to support young girls living in the village of Kinigi and children going to school in the village of Bubaji. We have created Momentum 3 years ago after returning from our trip to Rwanda. The aim is to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 defined by the United Nations: reduce inequalities, end poverty, improve education.
We support the teenage moms by offering them vocational training. They unfortunately left school and found themselves alone after getting pregnant. They are 90.
What has been done since 3 years?
We are very proud to see how the sewing center has developed thanks to the work of the local association Muhisimbi and the generosity of our donors.
We have been renting 2 houses to host the sewing center, bought sewing machines, equipment and tables, donated clothes to their children, bought food, paid for the annual medical insurance. The covid 19 crisis hurt them significantly. We partnered urgently with other associations to urgently provide food.
45 girls have completed the full training and are able to sew clothes, to produce masks certified by the Rwanda government. Unfortunately the training of the second group has been delayed and is starting now.
Next steps
When we see the impact we just want to keep going. The girls needs support. This is very early stage and in the current situation the first group trained can’t live with the work they can perform/ stuff they produce (very few tourists, villagers who are the local customers who are struggling too). And the second group is only starting the training.
The sewing center should continue to develop. Therefore we need more sewing machines, material and the girls should be able to earn money for themselves through the cooperative.
As we are launching the new fundraising for 2022, we collaborate with AtelierFH, le soulier engagé to propose a shoe pouch.
Donate and receive a pouch to appreciate the work done.
18$ = 15 donation and 3 $ for post.
