SUPPORT MILITARY FAMILIES 

Points for Patriots strives to connect military and civilian families to heal the repercussions of war. As a community, we endeavor to support the heroes of our country who protected our freedom and independence, sacrificed their lives for their people, and who defended their countries with courage, vigor, and solicitude. Veterans made physical, mental, and emotional sacrifices for our country. 

I am Olivia Marrale and this is my third year working with Points for Patriots. I have had the opportunity to learn directly from Veteran Mentors and work with students across the country to bridge the military-civilian divide in our communities. Now, I am thankful to be a Senior Patriot Coach mentoring younger Patriot Fellows in their journey. 

I initially joined PfP because of my grandfather, who served in Vietnam and suffered from PTSD and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. I have witnessed the painful impact that war leaves behind on someone I hold dear to me, and I am grateful to know that I honor my grandfather by working with PfP. 

Throughout the program, I have learned lifelong lessons in integrity, leadership, and resilience from Veterans, and how to work collaboratively with people from all walks of life. Together, we have built successful volleyball fundraisers on Long Island to raise funds and awareness for military families. 

I have learned that service is not just about giving back, but it is about building bridges of empathy that connect people. PfP has made me into the person I am today. I have gained insightful skills regarding mindfulness, meditation, leadership, organization, and social entrepreneurship. PfP has helped me develop a heightened sense of empathy and responsibility through forming interpersonal connections with the veteran community. I have learned the importance of building a supportive and inclusive community that is always a safe space. I am grateful to commemorate the legacies and sacrifices of our nation’s heroes while actively spreading compassion, support, and respect for veterans.
