Pierre Joris stood for voices that must be heard. If you can, please make a donation to The Pierre Joris Fund for Radical Reversal.

About the Fund:

For young people at the Jefferson County Youth Detention Center in Birmingham, Alabama, the Radical Reversal program offers a transformative outlet through the creative arts. We use poetry, music, beat production and critical thinking to help them find their voices, explore their identities, and imagine a new future for themselves.

Radical Reversal is proud to announce the Pierre Joris Fund for Radical Reversal, which will directly enrich this vital programming. Donated funds will go toward providing books, art supplies, and experienced teaching artists who can mentor these young people. With your help, we can create a space for healing, self-discovery, and, most importantly, a radical reversal—a complete turning away from past hardships and a powerful turn toward a brighter future.

About our Executive Director

Pierre was a great mentor to our Executive Director, Dr. Randall Horton, while he was earning a PhD at  SUNY Albany. Without Pierre, there would be no Dr. Horton. Pierre showed an active interest in Randall’s academic journey after his return to society from the carceral state.

Reflecting on Pierre’s legacy, Randall shared “I will always think of him in my writings—I know he will be looking over my shoulder, making sure I am always after something brand new.” Pierre wanted to support Radical Reversal. The Radical Reversal team is forever grateful to Nicole and Miles for this wonderful initiative. Pierre was a world-class poet and world-spanning humanitarian. He dedicated his life to providing a platform where the voiceless and powerless could be heard.
