Goal

Support individual Piedmont Forest School students by contributing to our scholarship fund!

  • $60 supports one month of programming in our Nature Play Group – an amazing foundational program for families to learn about us and our pedagogy together.
  • $280 funds one month of tuition for our popular two day per week Forest Kindergarten (3-6 year olds) or our Nature Explorers (5-13 year olds) classes – both drop off programs where children can gain the confidence and skills to be independent learners.
  • $1,680 sponsors an entire semester of programming for a child who otherwise may not have access to the educational, physical health, and emotional health benefits of time spent in nature.
  • $3,360 enables a child to participate in an entire year of programming, including all the gear they need.

Together we can have a lasting impact on the children and families in our community. Help them tap into their sense of awe and wonder of the natural world – a gift having lifelong effects. Every cent of your donation will go directly toward our scholarship fund, increasing access to nature-based programming for children in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina.

What is Forest School?

Forest Schools are established all over the world, sharing core principles such as ensuring extended amounts of unstructured free time in nature. This allows for children to participate in moderate risk taking with an inquiry-based and flow learning (child-led) teaching style.

The Benefits

Forest Schools promote connection to nature which provides rich opportunities for children to develop physical strength, emotional well being, cognitive functioning and social skills.

Our Mission

The mission of Piedmont Forest School is to provide to children of all abilities and backgrounds authentic Forest School and nature-based education programs which foster the development of the whole child, while engendering in them a love of and a commitment to caring for the natural world.

Who We Are

Piedmont Forest School was founded as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2020 by Sheri Grace PhD. Sheri brings over 30 years of experience in early childhood special education, making an enriching, inclusive, and therapeutic environment possible.

With the energetic work of our Board of Directors, volunteers, and the families of the children we serve, Piedmont Forest School has been able to grow steadily. With community support, we have been able to use local parks in the Winston-Salem and Greensboro areas as nature play sites and one day hope to have land to call our own.

Our Learning Partners are guides who mentor, model and coach students through positive relationships, interactions, and communications. These trained professionals provide essential emotional support to meet our children’s unique sensory and developmental needs. We provide an authentic Forest School experience, and with your help, will be able to expand our reach to have a deeper and even greater impact.
