Petty Cash
SINCE DECEMBER 2017, #DONEFORDIDI HAS AMPLIFIED AND FUNDED CLOSE TO 1000 INDIVIDUALS. MEMBERS’ REPARATIONS GO TO TWO PLACES:
(1) To support the admins, who are all Black and brown women and non-men. Admins create and curate content, and also assess, respond to, and follow up with needs within the BIPOC community.
(2) To the DonorBox Fund, which is distributed as reparations to Black women and non-men who are experiencing food insecurity, facing eviction, and other forms of adversity caused by systemic racism and oppression.
When a crisis like George Floyd hits, the money and “allies” flow in all directions. But this work continues, year in and year out - and the flash of white guilt is not a sustaining commitment, nor does it pay the debt you owe.
I’m blessed to be surrounded and supported by so much Black wisdom on my team. We are dismantling racial capitalism together, bit by bit, but Black MaGes are still waiting on our payday for labor served.
White folks who follow me, are you giving monthly to Petty Cash yet? If you are, is it time to increase your contribution? Please put your money where your learning is.
What’s a Petty Cash, you might ask? Petty Cash is sustainability.
My team can also distribute the money to Black women and non-men who are experiencing food insecurity, facing eviction, and other forms of adversity caused by systemic racism and oppression … or we can provide seed money for movement work that needs to happen at the moment.
As an aside … you might say online that you prioritize paying Black MaGes, but in fact, when the budget gets tight, you really want a new couch or a vacation, I see you prioritize that. And where does that leave Black MaGes?
