John Peterson Memorial Fund
John Peterson was a fixture in the Kansas Statehouse for over 50 years, first as a member of the Kansas House and then as a well-respected lobbyist. A few years ago, he had an idea of placing Kansas artwork in the committee rooms. Unfortunately, it has yet to come to fruition. This fund has been set up to honor John's vision and wish to see art displayed on the walls of the Kansas State Capitol, a place dear to his heart.
ArtsConnect is collecting donations at the request of John's family and friends so that those gifts may be pooled and used to purchase works by Kansas artists for the statehouse.
If you wish to mail a check instead of making an online donation, checks can be made payable to ArtsConnect and mailed to 909 N Kansas Ave, Topeka KS 66608. (Please write "Peterson Memorial" in the memo line.)
If you have any questions about the fund, please contact Michelle Butler at mbutler@kansasstatehouse.com.
ArtsConnect is the only nonprofit organization in Topeka dedicated to supporting the arts and artists across all disciplines. We do this through programs like the First Friday Artwalk, Artist INC Topeka, the Topeka Mural Project and many other initiatives that focus on creating a vibrant and equitable future through the arts. If you wish to make a donation to support the work of ArtsConnect, you can do that by clicking here.
Thank you for believing in the power of the arts to change lives - and for your contribution in memory of John, who loved art and the Great State of Kansas so very much.

John was truly a fixture in Kansas government for so many years. He was a kind, intelligent, witty and extremely loyal person who will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him. Jim had a long and wonderful friendship with John. We shared many happy times with John and Michelle. Our hope is that we will all try to be more like John as we remember how kind he was to everyone. As we enjoy the beautiful art work in the committee rooms at the Kansas Capitol, we will think of John and be thankful for his friendship. Kathy Maag
