People for the Dunes

People for the Dunes supports a new vision for the Oceano Dunes and the SVRA, one that transitions the park away from intensive off-highway vehicle use but still affords a rich variety of camping and non-OHV recreational activities. This vision includes protecting the natural environment and wildlife, respecting the area’s cultural heritage, boosting the local economy, and obtaining environmental justice for Oceano residents, and complying with all provisions of the California Coastal Act.

Your financial contribution is vital to support our public information efforts to increase awareness about this amazing public resource and environmental treasure in San Luis Obispo County's backyard. Your donation helps fund our public awareness campaign in order to protect the Oceano Dunes.

The beach and coastal dunes at Ocean Dunes is one of SLO County’s hidden gems. The Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division of the California Department of Parks and Recreation states that, “The Oceano sand dune area is recognized by scientists, conservationists, government agencies, and the public as the finest, most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California.” The beach and dunes offer critical habitat for endangered shorebirds and other rare plant and animal species. Why on earth would anyone allow OHVs on this beautiful, sensitive, and essential habitat!
