Compassion Sand Mandala
Tibetan Buddhist monks from DNKL, The Tibetan Buddhist Center for Universal Peace in Redding will be building a Compassion Sand Mandala at The Resiliency Center in Newtown April 9th through April 12th, 2019. Geshe Lobsang Dhargey explains that, “while we are bringing this offering to Newtown where there has been well-known tragedy, pain and grief, the building of the mandala is also dedicated to peace and compassion for all living beings throughout the world.”
It will take four full days for the monks to complete the intricate and colorful design, and then on the final day there will be the traditional destruction of the mandala, accompanied by ceremony and prayers.
The hours will be 8AM-5PM daily. At 2:00 each day there will be a brief talk about compassion. On the final day, the destruction ceremony will begin at 2:00 with Geshe Lobsang Dhargey delivering a brief talk about impermanence.
Admission is free to all.
