Goal

Support the PCARES Pediatric POTS Research Grant and Projects

Every year, thousands of young adults and teens suffer from debilitating symptoms of autonomic disorders like Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) — yet most wait months to years for an accurate diagnosis. POTS affects at least 1 in 100 adolescents (Pre-COVID Mayo Clinic estimation), with 90% of cases occurring in young women, but pediatric clinics still lack validated tools to identify it early.

PCARES.org  is seeking funding for an Original Research Grant and Clinical Project to change that.   Watch POTS : An Invisible Illness (Full Movie)  documentary to understand the problem. This educational video was made possible through these very donations (We understand POTS affects adults too, but research funding and validated treatment outcomes are missing in pediatrics when compared to adult literature).

Led by the PCARES Board of Directors—representing national expertise from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the University of Utah Department of Neurology, and Granger Medical’s Autonomic Disorders Clinic—this study will compare three diagnostic methods, including simple standing tests that any primary care clinic can perform. It will also validate the CPP  Score, which may become the first symptom-based tool formally validated for pediatric use. Together, these tools will significantly improve clinical confidence when used together in making an accurate diagnosis.

This research has the power to:

  • Cut diagnostic delays for young adults and adolescents across the country

  • Replace expensive, inaccessible table tilt testing with clinic-ready tools

  • Improve how pediatricians and primary care providers identify and treat POTS

  • Improve quality of life by increasing access to care through Primary Care.

  • Create high quality peer reviewed research, which will provide the foundation for measures in  future research treatment outcomes.

Funding Needed

We need to raise $500,000 to launch this study and begin enrolling participants.

Your tax-deductible donation directly funds important research and PCARES Projects for Physicians to then help patients with POTS.

Help us build the first validated diagnostic pathway for pediatric autonomic disorders.

PCARES Foundation (Procares Medical Nonprofit, EIN 37-2053757) serves as the 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor, ensuring all contributions are tax-deductible.
