For the past decade, I've been volunteering with the Parole Preparation Project. We work with people who have spent decades in prison as they prepare for their parole hearings (a person's opportunity to ask for release back into the community). We prepare advocacy materials, conduct mock interviews, liaise with reentry organizations, and build long-term relationships across the prison walls.

I wrote a little thing that feels true and they put part of it on their website (along with a silly photo they yanked from my work website), "From volunteer work to a core part of my life. I've made dear friends, learned so much, slept in strange motels before prison visits, celebrated the greatest wins, and painfully and patiently mourned the toughest of losses. I feel pretty confident this is how we're going to change the world."

Parole Prep is trying to raise $75,000 in May and I'm fundraising $2,000 to help them get there. Many many of you have donated money in past years directly to my friends who are coming home from prison (thank you so much again) - today I'm wondering if you would donate to the organization that makes it happen.
