Pam and David Largent Scholarship Fund
David Largent was born in San Jose in 1937 and raised in San Francisco. His interest in nature was developed with summer walks with his father while a young teenager in Camp Meeker. In 1959, He took a Cryptogamic Botany course at San Francisco College and found all spore producing organisms absolutely fascinating.
In 1968, he received a PhD with a Botany major, a Minor in Algology (algae) and Plant Morphology, and multiple courses in fungi, a course in Bryophytes (Mosses and Liverworts), and a course in Lichens. He therefore found his life’s work.
He went on to teach at Humboldt State University (Cal Poly Humboldt) for 33 years. During this time, he taught 100’s of students (undergraduate and graduate) every year and thoroughly enjoyed teaching the students about Fungi and Cryptogamic Botany.
In 1970, He met and married his wife Pamela who is a fourth generation Eurekan. Her constant companionship at home and in the field as well as her calm demeanor and practical attitude is the primary reason for whatever David Largent has accomplished.
Pamela and David are offering this Scholarship for the love of Fungi and Cryptogamic Botany.
