Goal

OWR HAS NOW SECURED A PREMISES TO BEGIN

BUILDING ITS VERY OWN WILDLIFE HOSPITAL !

'OWR' started life in a back garden as a hobby for Luke. When he finished work he would nurse a handful of wild animals back to health with the aid of the local vet . Over time the first hospital (A converted shed) and a handful of aviaries were put up was taking in many different patients as word of Luke's work spread. Now OWR rescues, cares and rehabilitates over 2000 patients ranging from little tiny mice through to adult deer.

We now have land.. wonderful ! and we have been given a portacabin to start our journey to becoming a proper hospital. But it needs work.. and transporting there (Quoted £1845 +VAT ) It needs more equipment and we need to build more aviaries, pens, sheds. Incubators, cages, equipment are all costing money to have here in the new hospital. Also were looking for another portacabin to house the admin team.. however they will be working from a office building until such housing can be justified.. right now.. we require a fully equipped working hospital.

If you can donate towards our new hospital it will help 1000's of animals that will come to our doors that need life saving work. Below are three ways you can help us achieve what Oxfordshire has needed for years !!!!

Latest INFO Regarding the new Hospital

18/01/2021

So what will the new hospital include? Well OWR and its board have been planning this for nealry over a year. We wanted to specilaise in a few areas we seem to be called upon, but we will be able to house and treat many different types of mammals, birds and reptiles .. as long as its wildlife.

Here is the updated plans so far ..

More Deer Sheds

- Last year OWR attended over 40 individual deer rescues. Many needed an over night stay simply to calm down after its ordeal. But some required more than just a warm bed. Treating wild deer is a very tricky job. Firstly they are extremely highly strung animals.. the very sound, scent or sight of you could potentially send them into cardiac arrest.. were not joking ! Secondly they are very powerful and dangerous animals to work with. A deer kick or headbutt could become a serious injury to a rescuer .. if not fatal.

Our deer sheds are

Sound proof

Completely blacked out

Insulated

Air conditioned

CCTV monitored

with each one costing £1200 to construct. Our new hospital will have 3-5 dedicated deer sheds.

Vet Staff

Whilst its wonderful to have a number of vets who will dedicate their time to come and see us or be available for us to go to them.. the aim of OWR is to hire its very own Vet in the near future. Why? Well .. OWR wont be just a wildlife rescue centre.. it will be Oxfordshire's only registered Vet Practice completely dedicated to wildlife treatment only.

With a employed vet working with OWR and it being a a registered practice

we will also look into having our own X-ray facilities and be open to the idea of allowing student vets to come and work here in order to gain valuable experience in the field of wildlife care and rehabilitation.

Its worth mentioning that OWR already has registered veterinary nurses who volunteer amongst our care team.
