Goal

The new phase of our homeless work has begun.

We have just purchased this outreach trailer:

We need one last piece of the puzzle to get it on the road. We need a generator. This is the one I want to buy:

I'd like to have this mobile community center up and running by Friday, January 3. It's just a few days away.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP US REACH OUR GOAL?

All of this has moved really fast. If you haven't caught the story, we just bought a $10,000 mobile community center for the homeless community of Akron. Here is that story:

A few days ago, we started a campaign where Rocky and I committed to matching up to $10,000 for an outreach trailer. But we came across this and felt like it was meant to be. So we bought it!

The total price after fees and stuff was $10,995.

We decided just to buy it and let the chips fall where they may.

This trailer is going to allow us to reach people in a way that has never been done before in Akron. This is going to be a place where they'll be able to come in and get warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

  • It has a shower so that people can take a shower.
  • We'll be able to cook.
  • We'll have a mobile wifi hotspot.
  • We'll have a computer they can use.
  • People are always welcome to use my phone.

I think we'll turn the bedroom into a small office, so maybe an outreach worker would consider coming and helping with things like housing or other services in a private space. But we'll see. I've never seen a more exhausted human being than one who has been walking for the last 72 hours because they have nowhere they can lie down. Maybe we'll just leave it as a bed.

We are not religious. We don't require anything of people. They just can come as they are. Our work is extremely low barrier.

That said, I love having all kinds of people and organizations meet with this community. I firmly believe that whatever works for someone to help them reach the goals they have for their life is all good with me. So, I'd love all kinds of people to join us in our mobile community center. Hopefully, this will be a space where we can partner with other organizations.

My "program" is simple. It's just radical acceptance. That's all it is. But you'd be surprised how rarely any of us are granted that basic hospitality... Especially homeless people. I am not here to change anyone. Unconditional love and acceptance are all I have to offer, and it's amazing how grateful people are to receive it. That's what the foundation of this community outreach trailer will be all about: simple love and acceptance with no strings attached.

Without a generator, we can't provide heat, electricity, and all the other things necessary to make this mobile community center function.

If you are able to contribute to this revolutionary form of homeless outreach, I would be extremely grateful. We are going to need things like mobile wifi, a generator and supplies.

Thank you so much for all you do for this community. You are amazing.
