Goal
Oracle Finance have formed a relay team to take part in the Guernsey Marathon on 6 April 2025 to raise funds for a charity close to their heart, the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation.
Paul Patterson was inspired to help the charity after his colleague, Jay Jehan, was rushed to the UK for vital care. She had developed pre-eclampsia, a serious illness brought on by pregnancy. Jay was transported to Southampton Hospital via medevac when she was 24 weeks pregnant and was given steroids to strengthen the baby’s lungs. Theo was born a while later at 28 weeks weighing a tiny 800g (1 lb 12oz).
The PPBF provided support and compassionate housing for Jay, her husband Martyn and Theo’s older brother 5-year-old Albie. Isaac’s Pad, one of the charity’s three fully equipped 2-bedroom flats next door to Southampton Hospital, became their home for almost 3 months. “It was an absolute godsend. It quickly felt like home and is only 100 steps away from the hospital. To be so close to Theo once he was born but still in hospital, it just made things so much easier and was a weight off our shoulders.”; said Jay.
Her colleague Paul felt the need to try and help in some way; “I was already aware of the important work that the PPBF do in supporting families when they really need it. Knowing funds must be raised each year to continue with their support of families, I thought the best way to help would be to raise some money. I managed to persuade a few colleagues at Oracle Finance to form a relay team to take part in the Guernsey Marathon. The team is formed of some experienced runners and some complete newbies. I got the newbies signed up to the couch to 5k app and we started our walk/run training. We now meet up and train one day each week and some of the team have already achieved the target of 5k, which is amazing.” Jay herself is also hoping to run the relay with her colleagues.
The family came back to Guernsey with Theo in October 2024. Considering how early and small he was, he’s doing amazingly well.
Please show your support by donating to the Oracle Finance Relay Team. Your donation will help provide comfort and support to Bailiwick of Guernsey families of premature babies and critically ill children when they need it the most. Thank you to all who donate, every penny counts and will make a real difference to families going through the hardest of times.
