Summer 2024

I am unbelievably proud to serve on the board of the Octavia Project. Named after acclaimed author Octavia Butler, the program creates spaces where young women and trans and nonbinary youth gather to broaden their skillsets, express themselves creatively, and expand their curiosity. 

Over the last ten years, The Octavia Project has offered NYC youth the chance to combine their interests in science fiction, creative writing and art with opportunities to engage with leaders in STEAM fields. 

I have seen firsthand the tremendous impact that Octavia Project has on its students, who have their minds engaged by an innovative curriculum that addresses the issues that affect them, such as climate change, racism and body image. 

The impact is best summed up by a student named Aleiyah, who says:

"I grew confidence and learned so much about my rights, culture, history, and capability as a woman and a woman of color."

We are aiming to raise a total of $40,000 by March 29, and would truly appreciate if you could help us reach this goal!
