Goal
The Kibera Pad Company
2019 Kibera Pad Company (KPC) imported a micro-factory & partnered local organisation, Polycom Girls to produce and distribute FREE sanitary pads to girls in Kibera Slum.
Our aim is to keep girls in school
It was a resounding success! So much so, that in 2021 DFAT funded our second micro factory enabling more girls to receive FREE pads and mentorship.
Gender Ambassador Copus Campbell visited KPC and personally reported to the media and our annual fundraiser, how KPC is a significantly worthwhile, effective operation.
Today
KPC continues to respond to the needs of the Kibera community:
- 10 local women are employed at the factories.
- 50 schools receive FREE pads.
- 1,500+ girls a month get pads plus walk-ins.
- We also provide special pads to girls with disabilities.
- 10 local women are trained as mentors.
- Our mentorship program now includes boys, increasing understanding of menstruation, personal hygiene, dignity and respect for girls.
1 Million Pads Campaign
We are fundraising to ensure we can reach 1 Million Pads over the next 3 years and seek your support.
We are seeking funds to transport a generous one-off donation of 1-2yrs supply of two key materials used to make the pads, from UK to the factories in Kibera. Taking advantage of this offer will result in nearly 50% reductions in costs for materials in the next two years. Enabling us to ensure we achieve our goal of One Million Pads - paving the way for more girls to get an education.
