ode • ANTiPODE

ode • ANTiPODE is a collaboration between maia melene d’urfé and ANTiPODE Art Gallery aiming to co-curate dance artists and visual artists of similar styles or philosophies for co-informed performances and exhibits. Housed at ANTiPODE, dance artists have the opportunity to develop their creative research responding to and collaborating with local and international visual mixed media artists on display in the gallery.

ANTiPODE Art Gallery is in Pioneer Square run by two Iranian immigrants with a focus on fostering artistic connections between Seattle and other cities while uplifting the voices of immigrant artists through awareness, nuance, and empowerment. In collaboration with ANTiPODE’s curator, Saïna Heshmati, d’urfé aims to curate established Seattle dance artists with strong, diverse creative practices and perspectives who are interested in making site-specific, mid-length works that can integrate with mix-media art.

ode • ANTiPODE provides local dance artists with generous financial support, residency time at the gallery, and a platform to create new, experimental work. As a curator, d’urfé prioritizes substantial financial support for dance artists and advocates for more financial investment in dance as an art form. They know as a working artist, that financial burden is one of the biggest hurdles to having a long career in the arts.

If you have been to a show and believe in supporting local dance artists, we invite you to donate and contribute towards future iterations of this project. Your support will be a sustaining resource to establish the reliability and continuity of this program to artists and the community. Every dollar is an investment in our local arts community and a space for people to gather and experience art that is beautiful, challenging, experimental, and thoughtfully cultivated.

Thank you for supporting us – it is not possible without you.
