Goal
Ukraine, unfortunately, bears the grim distinction of being the most heavily mined country globally, with 30% of its territories contaminated by landmines. Russia left approximately 2,000,000 landmines in the field (yes, two million, it’s not an exaggeration). Many of these are designed specifically to harm people, including booby traps and a variety of prohibited antipersonnel mines fired from specialized ground launchers. These landmines pose a particularly grave danger to children.
Ukraine trains a few hundred specialists every month for the humanitarian demining of its territory. This effort requires a diverse array of equipment, including basic tools such as dielectric probes and metal hooks used to safely identify and disarm landmines.
UDS supports a Ukrainian non-profit “We Help Ukraine” that has already manufactured over 5,000 of these life-saving items at an incredibly low price of about $2 per dielectric probe (used to find a landmine in the dirt) and about $1 per metal hook (used to deactivate landmines while avoiding possible traps).
The money from this cause will be directly used for purchasing materials (such as PVC pipes and fiberglass sticks) and manufacturing the equipment described above. The cost of each item is 4-8 times smaller compared to similar items on the market, making this initiative highly cost-effective. By contributing, you become part of a collective effort to prevent needless accidents and safeguard innocent lives.
