Before Jackson started his freshman year at Penn State University, he wanted some guidance on how to pursue a career in sports. His first mentor, Chris, walked him through the business side of sports, such as brand deals and sponsorship opportunities. John, the manager of the Riverhounds’ facility, shared his experience running physical spaces for athletics and what the event planning behind it looks like. His final mentor, Pirates scout Michael, told Jackson what he looks for in a professional baseball player and how he can create connections with executives and decision makers to get a job in the industry of his dreams. Jackson is now working on the sidelines at Penn State football games, getting his first taste of big time sports.
