Goal
The brainchild of former Wellington Zookeeper and conservation enthusiast, Peter McKenzie, the Ngā Manu Trust was established in 1974.
Recognising the opportunity to establish a location that embraced the ideas of preservation, conservation and education, McKenzie began the search for a suitable plot of land. What he found was a 14-hectare parcel of land, which contained a tiny remnant of rare lowland swamp forest surrounded by farmland, located just north of Waikanae.
Over the last 50-years, Ngā Manu has become a much-loved destination to connect with nature, to learn about our unique ecosystem, to support conservation efforts and to volunteer as a guardian for our environment.
Established in 2017, the Ngā Manu Endowment Fund provides a reliable funding stream to support the operations and development of the reserve long-term, assisting with maintaining reserve assets and providing opportunities to educate and engage the public with conservation initiatives.
All donations to the fund will be responsibly invested and grown to support the vision of the Ngā Manu Trust long into the future.
