NAIO
By helping communities to help themselves, our projects seek to make a lasting contribution to the world’s sustainable development. To that end, mainly, we ask for your utmost attention, since for communities to develop and strengthen not dominant but respectful ways of human inhabitation, both their thorough involvement and financial aid are never enough.
Initial funds will go to the project of Sangiro (https://naio.foundation/projects), an informal settlement found near the town of Broederstroom, 70km north of Johannesburg in South Africa. Sangiro was developed as a community serving the local farms during the years of Apartheid. However, the industrialisation of farming production and the general shift to enterprises focused towards tourism in the region has prevented any persistent attempt of housing and infrastructural upgrading by the community.
Struck by continuous immigration and the economic disruption caused by the COVID-19 crisis, the population of Sangiro has quadruplicated since 2019, making access to both children's education and water a vital concern and unavoidable responsibility. The establishment of an Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) will further enable the community to apply for basic services that are currently unavailable to the inhabitants - water connection, electricity, government teachers for the children, and more.
As a foundation, our commitment is that a minimum of 90% of the funds donated goes directly to our projects and only a single-digit percentage be used for administrative costs and fees.
