Goal

As a Black woman and neurologist, I have the privilege of treating patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I witness the strength and resilience of Black women battling this disease—women who are mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends.  I was not taught to recognize MS as a common diagnosis in Black women during medical school, and because of these teachings, many of my patients experience delayed diagnoses and postponed treatments—delays that can lead to irreversible disability. We now know this is unacceptable. Early intervention is critical, yet research, resources, and support systems continue to overlook the unique experiences of Black women. Too many of my patients feel unseen, unheard, and forced to navigate this chronic illness alone.   🧡

That is why I am passionate about the mission of We Are ILL—an organization dedicated to ensuring that Black women living with MS receive the care, community, and advocacy they deserve.   🧡

We Are Illmatic is more than an organization—it is a movement. It is a safe space where Black women can share their experiences and access culturally competent care that addresses both their medical and emotional needs. It empowers women through education, equipping them with the knowledge to advocate for their health and demand research that reflects their experiences. Most importantly, it fosters sisterhood—because no woman should have to fight MS alone.   🧡

🧡I am calling on you—our allies, our community, and everyone who believes in health equity—to stand with us. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. 🧡
