Goal
The first time I learned about We Are ILL, I didn’t just see another organization—I saw a movement. A space that wasn’t just about raising awareness but about action, advocacy, and empowerment for Black women navigating multiple sclerosis (MS). When I had the honor of serving as a keynote speaker at their We Are Ill event, I was profoundly moved by the strength of the women in that room. Their stories of resilience. Their determination. Their need for a space where they are seen.
Now, as a board member, my commitment to this cause has only deepened. Because here’s what’s at stake:
Black women are often diagnosed with MS later than their white counterparts, leading to more severe disease progression and greater neurological damage before they even receive proper treatment. Research shows that while MS was once thought to primarily affect white populations, Black women are being diagnosed at increasing rates—but often too late to prevent significant disability. (Sources: Amezcua et al., 2020; Kister et al., 2013).
Funding for Black-led, Black-focused non-profits is an uphill battle. We Are ILL is one of the few organizations solely focused on ensuring that Black women with MS are informed, prepared, and supported. Without funding, this critical work cannot continue.
This is why I’m personally stepping up:
💜 I will match every donation—dollar for dollar—up to the first $1,000.
That means your contribution will go twice as far in ensuring Black women have access to education, resources, and a community that uplifts them through their MS journey.
This March, during MS Awareness Month 2025, let’s do more than just acknowledge the problem—let’s be part of the solution.
💜 Donate today. Share this message. Let’s make sure no Black woman faces MS alone.
