RESCUE ALONE ISN'T THE SOLUTION

Yesterday, we went to a recycling plant because we were told about some puppies that needed sterilisation before the situation got out of control and they started breeding. When we arrived, we were excitedly greeted by nine dogs and four cats, all friendly and in relatively good health. It was clear the animals were loved and that the people who worked there were doing their best to help them.

However, they didn’t know how to stop the animals from breeding or how to provide them with adequate medical care. This is a perfect example of where our advocacy work can make a real difference and help the wider community.

We introduced ourselves and explained that we wanted to help, if they would let us. They were incredibly grateful and happy to accept the support. We checked the animals’ condition and quickly realised they had fleas and ticks, but overall, they were cared for, fed, and loved human interaction. We returned to The Healing Centre to gather what we needed, including flea and tick treatment and medical supplies for some cuts on the puppies, then went back to do what we could on the spot, including a lot of tick picking (which we secretly love).

As there are a large number of animals at this site, including a total of ten females who have the potential to breed, it’s important that we act quickly to have everyone sterilised as soon as possible. We will also vaccinate all the animals and provide rabies shots.

These pets are loved and cared for and don’t need rescuing. What was needed was education and support so the community could prevent this situation from becoming unmanageable and create a bigger, longer-lasting impact.

Right now, to help this furry family of 13, we need a minimum of $2,000 to sterilise, vaccinate, and treat all 13 dogs and cats. Please consider donating to our fundraiser so we can protect this loving family of pets and, in turn, support the wider community and prevent unnecessary suffering.

The Costs Involved:

- Rabies Vaccination: $25

- Complete Vaccination X 2: $50

- Average Sterilisation: $60

- Flea & Tick Treatment: $15

- Deworming: $5

Total Cost Per Animal: $155
