Mountain Gorillas Fundraiser

A special fundraiser event this Earth Day April 22, 2022.

I love action and this is what I chose to do today.

• In the past, I have individually contributed to charities including: WFP-Ukraine emergency, ShareTheMeal, Light for the World and to WeForest together with Josipa Vranjkovic. This time Earth Day called for a different, bigger supporting attempt.

• We’ve lost the following species most recently:

  • Splendid Poison Frog (2020)

  • Baiji Dolphin (~2017-2020)

  • Spix's Macaw (~2019)

  • Northern White Rhino (only two females remaining)

Mountain Gorillas are potentially next - one the planet’s rarest mammals !

• Tragic. It hurts the planet’s diversity, health and well-being

• What philosophy drives me to take this action?

  I believe we should aim for the moon, become interplanetary and go interstellar.

  Goes the old saying: ‘The Earth is the cradle of humanity, but mankind cannot stay in the cradle forever.’

  • Humans account for just 0.01% of Earth’s biomass, and we’ve collectively (unknowingly or knowingly) managed to wipe out of 83% of wild mammals from this cradle while pursuing our wildest desires and explorations, so far (more here)
  • Mountain Gorillas are potentially next - one the planet’s rarest mammals. About 1000 remaining since the last 3 years,- as per the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species

• That is the unfortunate truth

• The Bright side:

  • We can help reduce the probability of this extinction occurring Or potentially avoid it completely, by helping those who are taking action on ground at the fore-front

You can help - via this fundraiser ! 

• The change will this fundraising trigger:

  • Help Virunga National Park Rangers to protect the park and its mountain gorillas from Poachers and ground-operators of Oil explorations giants
  • Establish patrol posts, including the re-installation of solar panels and other field equipment
  • Clear the gorillas’ habitat of snares, assess, and restore habitat destruction
  • Help the entire forest ecosystem and fight natural de-carbonisation
  • re-instill hope among the residents for a brighter future and a better sense of the global community

(Personal note: I have not personally contacted or visited the Virunga Foundation management, yet. We aim to following-up on regular updates of the efforts and activities of Rangers once they resume daily monitoring of the gorilla population. I fully trust 100% of the fund raised in this round will be rightly used for the mentioned cause.)
