Support Monarch Mental Health
In January 2019, after years of requests from our community, UR Pride launched the Monarch Mental Health program with support from the Community Initiatives Fund for a pilot project lasting eight months that would allow for a part-time mental health counsellor to provide direct counselling to 2SLGBTQ+ clients in Regina. Within the first three days of announcing the project, our waitlist was at 3X capacity.
During our first 22 weeks of Monarch Mental Health’s existence, we have held over 100 completed sessions through our part-time counsellor. Throughout her time with clients, our counsellor also engaged in client crisis management and provided support for suicide attempts, loss of housing, loss of employment, or removal from school.
Unfortunately, secured funding for Monarch Mental Health finished in August 2019. This has caused us to dip into our reserves to continue this necessary program. Over the next year, we’re hoping to raise $60,000 to help ensure the programs longevity.
