In March 2026, a video circulated on Facebook showing a young girl tied to a tree by her wrist in a nearby town. Her mother's boyfriend — a man from Bombardopolis who his community believes to be innocent — was killed after being suspected of theft. Following his death, Mitchaella's mother abandoned her.

Just a few days later, Mitchaella ended up in Bombardopolis. At 10 o'clock at night, our kindergarten director notified us— Mitchaella had been found again tied to a tree by her wrist, this time without clothing. Without hesitation, our director took her in, clothed her with donated items from our kindergarten program, and brought her to the hospital the following morning for a full evaluation.

As is common in children who have experienced significant trauma, she is in a period of withdrawal — largely silent and not yet engaging with those around her. We have witnessed this with several children who have come to us through neglect and hardship. It can take many months — sometimes up to six — before a child begins to smile, speak freely, and trust the people around them. We are not in a rush. We are here for her.

We do not have a birth certificate or any identifying information, so we are unsure of her exact age. Based on her dentition, we estimate she is 4 years old. Following her hospital visit, the doctor noted that Mitchaella may be neurodivergent, though further evaluation and observation by our team will be needed. We will continue to share updates as we learn more.

We ask for your prayers over Mitchaella — for safety, healing, and the unwavering love of God in this season. If you feel led to sponsor her, we welcome that support. Your giving ensures she has medical care, food every single day, and a place in our education program when the time is right.

We have witnessed firsthand the light and love that sponsors bring into our children's lives, and we pray that Mitchaella will one day feel that same love. She may not yet understand what a sponsor is, or even fully grasp where she is — but in time, she will feel your support, your prayers, and your love surrounding her.

Update 3/27/26:

Mitchaella has now been in our home for two weeks. Her transition has not been without its challenges — the trauma she experienced before coming here is very real, and healing will take time. But we are committed to walking alongside her every step of the way, making sure she feels safe, deeply loved, and gently cared for each day. This week, we brought her back to the doctor for further evaluation. She is currently facing some health challenges, including anemia and an infection, and her little body is working so hard to heal and grow stronger. We ask that you keep this sweet girl in your thoughts and prayers — for restored health, comfort in the days ahead, and a future filled with hope, peace, and happiness.
