Miles for Migraine Donation
Why should you consider making a donation to Miles for Migraine? Migraine is a disease is that is underfunded in the research arena, and mistunderstood by most of the public. This scenario is the result of social stigma. Most people believe that migraine is 'just a bad headache.' The reality is - migraine is a neurological disorder that attacks the entire body with many other disabling symptoms and causes people to lose jobs, drop out of school, lose relationships and miss the moments of their life.
People with migraine and other headache disorders are afraid to discuss their plight with others because of the social stigma they experience. We provide support to help those affected and learn how to advocate for themselves, while feeling supported in a like-minded community. We do this by holding live, patient-participatory events.
Our programs - walk/runs, and educational events for adults and children - are designed to help patients learn to advocate while also teaching them about treatment options. We hope that people will feel supported in a community of patient participatory events, and will continue to talk about migraine disease so that the stigma associated with headache disorders can be diminished.
Our proceeds are donated to fellowship programs which trains doctors to specialize in headache medicine. Why?
These doctors are required to do research while in training. Furthermore, our grants will help to alleviate the shortage of doctors in the US as many patients are forced to wait several months to make an appointment.
