Goal

Mike grew up in Malawi in the 1970s and 80s and remembers a countryside full of woodlands, the vast majority of which have been cut down to provide land to grow crops and produce charcoal to sell as a fuel in the large urban areas. Soil erosion and loss of biodiversity are having very serious impacts on the ability of many subsistence rural communities to grow enough food and to look after their land.

Mike and his son Jake are looking to climb up Kilimanjaro in August this year to raise funds for Rooted to help Fisherman's Rest Community Projects help their local communities help themselves raise their quality of life by growing trees that produce fruit that can be sold to raise income and also hold the soil together on their land. At just under 20,00ft to the top of Kilimanjaro, Mike and Jake hope to reach the summit during a 9 day trek.

Monkton have been long standing supporters of Fisherman's Rest Community Projects, and continue to make an incredible difference in Malawi.
