Mia graduated in 1976 from San Gorgonio High School, where she was a formidable competitor in speech and debate. She attended college at Cal State San Bernardino, graduating in 1980 with a degree in liberal studies and a teaching credential. After college, Mia worked as a counselor for troubled youth in the juvenile court system. After college, Mia served as an educator for the San Bernardino City School District and for her own family.

Mia, a devoted Catholic, was the definition of selfless love. She cared more for others than she cared about herself. We hope that the recipient of this award will use it to carry on Mia's legacy of selflessness, service, and excellence.
