Goal

MVG is at its core a network of community gardens that weaves through the Pajaro Valley’s most resilient neighborhoods. We launched our first community garden in 2011. It was the valley’s first community garden and involved 30 low-income families working on land leased with a handshake agreement from a local church pastor. Success stories from this site spread and the community demanded more garden plots. By 2012, we expanded to two new sites, and membership grew. In response to ongoing demand, we launched five additional gardens in four years. In 2018, we now work with 224 families. With our 224 families and the gardens as a place to gather, we are implementing more community-focused programming and increasing our organizational presence in the gardens.

With our gardens in place, we are ready to go beyond building spaces for our member families to grow food. MVG will be working to empower these families by embracing a member-driven philosophy so that together we can design a holistic approach to food insecurity in the Pajaro Valley. Our members live on the front lines of food insecurity––that means they know the issue the best. With your support, our member’s experiences can inform our work and be utilized to co-create effective solutions to food insecurity using our seven community gardens as the infrastructure.
