Featuring Mildred from the Vintage Litter (Pup of Mama Dottie)

Mildred is a gentle, loving puppy who has already faced more in her short life than most dogs ever should.

Earlier this week, Mildred was admitted to the emergency vet for urgent surgery due to intussusception, a dangerous condition where part of the intestine folds into itself. Despite immediate intervention, her condition remained extremely critical. She was transferred overnight to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine for specialized monitoring and care, where her medical team worked tirelessly through the night.

At one point, we were unsure if Mildred would survive.

The following day, after additional procedures, an ultrasound was performed when another intussusception was suspected. While current tests are thankfully coming back clear, Mildred is still not stable enough to be discharged and continues to receive intensive treatment at the hospital.

Between emergency surgery, diagnostics, medications, and a prolonged hospital stay, Mildred’s veterinary costs are expected to reach $4,000, a significant and unexpected expense for rescue.

Many supporters may recognize Mildred as one of Dottie’s puppies. Dottie was tragically hit by a car while pregnant, and her pups were born into rescue, surrounded by compassion and care. When Dottie couldn’t raise them herself as she had to focus on her own recovery, foster families stepped in to give Mildred and her siblings the love and safety they needed to grow.

True to her start in life, Mildred is a calm, affectionate puppy with a deep love for snuggles. She’s gentle, curious, and sweet-natured, happy to curl up in your arms just as much as she enjoys quietly exploring her world. She does well with other dogs, has handled limited cat interactions nicely, and continues to grow into a wonderful companion.

Right now, our focus is simple: giving Mildred the care she needs to recover and come home.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ease the burden and allows us to say yes when dogs like Mildred need us most.
