MCM's Preparedness Campaign in Response to COVID 19
MCM is executing a 2 part strategy in preparation for the COVID 19 pandemic's impact in Malawi by educating the children and securing supplies. Your immediate support will guarantee that MCM has the resources to meet the current need and to get back to business as usual beyond the crisis.
Part 1: Education
Ken has already met with the staff, guardians and village chiefs. They've updated the children on the "new normal" at MCM and in their daily lives. All schools in Malawi are closed, including MCM Academy. Meeting in large groups is banned and public transportation halted. Now each day, by village, the children are able to come to the center for a meal. The teachers have prepared assignments to take home. Chisomo, MCM's nurse will be on hand . If the children or someone in their family gets sick with a cough or fever they've learned how to contact the authorities and know not come to the center. Everyone has practiced a new hand-washing protocol and learned the importance of social distancing.
Part 2: Securing Supplies
Now we must purchase a 6 month supply of maize, medications and hygiene products in order to be prepared for the potential COVID 19 wave to hit Malawi. The good news is that maize has just been harvested and therefore available. Prices are reasonable yet anticipated to rise as the need and tension increases. Price hikes for medicine have already been reported though there is no treatment available in Malawi. The medical center will be stocked with fever preventing medications, HIV and Malaria testing kits and vitamins, Soap will be stored for use at the center and given to children for their families.
Your donations will provide our children with proper nourishment, medications and preventative supplies so they have the opportunity to THRIVE during the COVID 19 pandemic.
We are grateful for your support!
