Mayo is a beautiful Akita who was rescued after a breeder in China sold a group of Akitas to be slaughtered.

Thankfully, the dogs were rescued before they could meet that fate, but their journey was far from over. Many of the Akitas became seriously ill with distemper virus and, heartbreakingly, several did not survive.

Today, Mayo is the last remaining dog in China from that group.

After everything he has endured, we are desperate to give him the future he deserves.

Mayo has a wonderful placement waiting for him in the Netherlands with a breed-specific Akita rescue, where he will finally have the opportunity to experience life as a cherished companion rather than a dog waiting in a shelter.

Like so many rescue dogs, Mayo has spent far too long simply existing rather than truly living. A Freedom Flight will change every aspect of his life. It will give him the chance to leave China behind, begin a new chapter, and discover what it means to be loved, safe, and part of a family.
