Goal
In 2016, Maya’s Hope changed our lives forever.
We knew we wanted to adopt a child. We looked at agencies, programs in the US, and programs in other countries. We weren’t sure how or where to proceed.
One night I was scrolling on Facebook, and a video from Maya’s Hope came across my feed. The video was of a 14-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy, in a remote Ukrainian orphanage. For 3 days I watched the video over and over, crying each time. Finally, we decided we’d reach out for more information and contacted Maya’s Hope. That began an incredible adventure.
We learned that his name was Dmytro. We also learned that in Ukraine, children with disabilities were hidden away in very remote institutions with no education, extremely limited funding for food and care, and no interaction in the community. We learned that Maya’s Hope was working to change that – working to help support institutions in Ukraine by providing physical and medical necessities, and letting the world know about these hidden children.
We began the long process of international adoption and in 2018 we met Dima in person in the institution in Ukraine. We got to see the tremendous difference Maya’s Hope was making in the lives of all the children there.
In December of 2018, we brought Dima to the US. He was the very first child adopted from that orphanage. Since then, there have been several other adoptions, including our second adoption from the same place. We brought Volodya home in 2021. We would not have these young men in our family, and other children would not have families, if not for Maya’s Hope. But there is so much more Maya’s Hope is doing – and they need your help.
Ukraine is now at war. Some orphanages have been destroyed and children have been relocated to other institutions, straining already very limited resources. People are suffering. Maya’s Hope is working to fund caregivers, vitamin-rich formula, and quality medical care amid the chaos of war.
But that’s not all Maya’s Hope does. They are also working in the Philippines to provide supplies, healthcare and education to vulnerable children. They’ve provided support to families with children with special needs – which allows the families to continue to care for their children. They’ve funded much needed medical procedures, and education, which has changed so many lives.
There are so many ways you can help Maya’s Hope continue to do important work. You can donate - even $5 or $10 helps. Consider sponsoring a child or attending the 13th annual Lotus Ball. You could make a tremendous difference in the life of a child or family.
Please consider helping Maya’s Hope. Maya's Hope depends on donations and every donation helps. Thank you!
