In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"4 years have passed since our son Gordey was born. To be honest, the first step was not easy for us, to tell everyone about our son. It took us 1 year to accept the diagnosis of our baby, and two years to learn to live with it.
We do not want to be ashamed of the fight for the health of our only child. We know one thing, that we need to put Gordyushka on his feet.
Our pregnancy was desired and very long awaited. All 9 months everything was great: normal tests, screenings, all ultrasound scans showed that the baby was absolutely healthy.
Gordeika was placed with his head down and had no umbilical cord entanglements. We attended courses on preparation for childbirth and followed all the recommendations of the doctors.
All phases of childbirth were within normal limits, until the strenuous period, the child could not get out in any way, dad was already standing and saw the top of his head, I was pushing as it should, remembering how they taught in the courses, but the baby did not come out, and then the doctor began to apply vacuum extract - the first once the sucker flew off the head (and left a hematoma), the second time they applied and pulled out our baby.
On the second day at the maternity hospital, a neurosonogram was made, revealed agnesia of the corpus callosum and said, we do not know how your child will develop further.
Then we did not really take it very close, but months went by and began to notice that the child was lagging behind in development, did not hold his head, did not crawl, and we began to sound the alarm and knock on all doors. He has several diagnoses.
We do not sit yet, do not crawl, do not walk, do not speak, but we are striving for this very much and are trying our best. Gordyushka and I still have a very long way ahead, a lot of work, a lot of achievements and victories."
Gordey needs to have several tests done before an appointment with a geneticist, which his mother cannot afford. Can you help us pay for Gordey's medical tests?
