In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Sasha was born in 2016 as a healthy child, at 3 months we began to notice a change in tone, stopped following toys, the grasping reflex went. At 6 months, they sounded the alarm, turned to a neurologist, after a consultation at 9 months, the first rehabilitation. Regular classes with a rehabilitation therapist, a bobat therapist, a speech therapist. Now he is undergoing treatment for a metabolic disorder, he has constant muscle weakness, he cannot walk himself, there are no self-care skills. There is a great need for diapers, gluten-free food. Any help provided will be greatly appreciated. There is a lot of work, but we are not stopping!"
