Maya's Hope: Formula and Medicines for a Girl with Cerebral Palsy

In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.

"When she was one year old, Vika was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Until the age of ten, the diagnosis was moderate: the girl fed herself, tried to talk and walked on her legs. She was cheerful and sociable. Vika spoke in her own way, and perfectly understood those around her. In 2017, an operation was performed to lengthen the tendons on the legs. Either the operation was unsuccessful, or it was a coincidence, but from that time on, the girl's condition began to deteriorate. Her arms and legs began to deform, and Vika could no longer move on her own. She completely stopped talking.

Since the end of last year, Vika began to lose weight rapidly. In a few months, she lost 7 kg (15 pounds) - this is a third of her original weight. Now she weighs only 13 kg (33 pounds). In January, in a state of severe dehydration, convulsions and 36/20 blood pressure, the girl was admitted to the hospital. All this time, doctors are trying to find the cause of the weight loss and stabilize the condition. Vika has an extremely severe protein-energy deficiency. Food is given through a tube. She needs a special diet.

The family is low-income. They are raising six children."

Can you help us purchase formula and medicines for Vika?
