In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Melania was born at the 28th week of pregnancy with a weight of 0.970 kg in 2013.
She spent the first month of her life in the perinatal center on a ventilator. After 2 months, she was discharged with a weight of 2.5kg.
We immediately got registered with a neurologist, orthopedist, ophthalmologist... exercises, injections, massage, ultrasound, CT, MRI, in one year we were given a diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Melania does not stand, does not walk, sits with support, at eight years old, her weight is 17 kg, height 118 cm (very thin). She needs special food for low-weight children. She wears diapers.
She has had four surgeries on the hip joints of both legs (there are titanium plates). Everything is very expensive in the hospital: it is becoming more and more difficult for us to find the necessary sums for the treatment of our girl. Melania and I live on a child's disability pension, dad does not live with his family, and does not pay alimony."
Can you help us purchase formula and diapers for Melania?
