In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Natalia and Anna are sisters from Ukraine.
"Natalia, 14 years old, has cerebral palsy. She was born at 26 weeks with a weight of 850 g. She is a twin but her sister died at birth. She is constantly undergoing therapy, as there is a very strong tone and if we do not practice for a long time, then immediately a deterioration in physical condition begins.
The youngest Anna is 4 years old and she also has cerebral palsy. She was born at 34 weeks with a weight of 2 kg. There was a rapid childbirth and my daughter daughter experienced hypoxia. The diagnosis was made at a year old."
Their family is struggling to provide the girls with essentials as well as therapies for both of them.
Can you help us provide them with formula, wipes and nutrition for the next three months?
