Maya's Hope: Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) for a Girl with Cerebral Palsy

In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.

"Alina is the desired long-awaited only child in the family. The pregnancy was easy, but the birth dashed hopes for a carefree future. The child was squeezed out during childbirth, vacuum extraction was applied, obstetric forceps were applied, which did not give results. Next was an emergency caesarean section. As a result - a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, disability, but with a medical "amendment": "the child is very promising." So, having released all the insults and misunderstandings "for what?", Alinka's family set its next goal: to put the child on her feet in the truest sense of the word.

For nine years of treatment and training in Alinka - excellent results! In the summer, the girl learned to move with the help of a walker. Today Alina has moved to the 3rd grade of school. Inclusive education is organized for her, she diligently studies with her peers in the general class, she can read and write. She is assisted in her lessons by her mother, a personal assistant who is always by her side. Alinka is a friendly girl, she has many friends at school, they communicate on breaks, draw together, play various board games.

Her parents have paid for many rehabilitation and therapy services on their own. And now that all family funds are directed to the continuation of rehabilitation, they need help to purchase ankle-foot orthoses, which will make this rehabilitation more complete and help to consolidate and improve the result already achieved."

Can you help us purchase AFO's for Alina?
