Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance and are unable to afford necessities to improve their quality of life.
Samantha is a bright-eyed two-year-old who was born with Hydrocephalus, which is the buildup of fluids deep within the brain. The pressure of too much fluid damages brain tissues and causes both physical and mental developmental problems. Maya’s Hope funded surgery for Samantha in March 2021 to insert a shunt in her skull to stop the fluid from building up and causing her head to grow abnormally. Unfortunately, the surgery wasn’t successful, so she had to have a second operation to fix the first one. She recuperated well from the second surgery, but Samantha gets sick often, has a chronic cough for which the doctor prescribed using a nebulizer. She was once underweight and could not walk but is now doing well thanks to Maya's Hope.
She lives with her parents and 2 sisters in temporary housing without running water. The family gets water from a well which is not healthy for Samantha.
The family cannot afford Samantha’s basic needs such as fortified milk, food, diapers, vitamins, and the medication she needs for the nebulizer to help her breathe. Her parents sometimes go hungry to provide for their children but still struggle.
Can you please help provide for her needs?
