Maya's Hope: Emergency Surgery to remove mass for a 5-year-old girl in the Philippines

Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance and are unable to afford necessities to improve their quality of life.
Jamaica is a 5-year-old girl living in the Philippines who was born with a lipomyelocele. A lipomyelocele is a type of lipoma that occurs with Spina Bifida. A lipoma is a fatty, fibrous tissue mass in the spinal column that extends on the backside through a Spina Bifida defect (gap or opening in the spine). It connects to the spinal cord against the skin.
She is not able to control going to the bathroom. In addition, she is not able to release all of her urine, so uses a catheter once a day. Her left leg is badly affected by the mass on her back and without surgery, as she grows, she will have difficulty walking. As a result of her inability to void, she has frequent painful urinary tract infections.
The doctor recommended that the lipomyelocele be removed as soon as possible.
Jamaica’s mother reached out to Maya’s Hope for help. She also explained that, in addition to the mass, Jamaica has deformed feet. Once Jamaica recovers from her initial surgery, her feet would be operated on, and cast. She has a long road ahead of her, and yet this little girl keeps smiling!
Jamaica lives with her parents in her Grandparents house. Her father is a tricycle driver, with inconsistent earnings in the last 3 years. Her Grandmother owns a sari-sari store. Jamaica’s mother and father, and grandparents earn between $68 and $136 a month. They grow their own fruits and vegetables and keep chickens for food. Jamaica’s medical expenses to remove the mass costs $4703 USD.
They are not able to afford this surgery, which would greatly improve her quality of life. Jamaica’s parents adore her. She is the apple of their eye and their greatest wish is to be able to see their daughter improve.
Jamaica’s Mother shared this with us: “We are wholeheartedly asking for your help so she can have surgery and so her condition will be better and she can walk properly”.
Can you help Jamaica?
