Goal
The purpose of Maverick Forward (referred to herein as the Organization) will be to further fitness and wellness in underserved communities by supporting fitness professionals in their fields so that they can help individuals in underserved communities to live more free, healthy and happy lives. Specifically, the Organization’s primary purpose and activity will be to offer mentorship and training to individuals in underserved communities who have an interest in becoming a licensed fitness trainer (each referred to herein as a Mentee). The Organization will partner the Mentee with a licensed trainer for mentorship, will fund all necessary training required for the Mentee to become a licensed fitness trainer, will pay for any costs of transportation, licensing, and certificates necessary for the Mentee to become a licensed fitness trainer, and will also mentor and teach the Mentee about how to set up a successful business model as a trainer (including how to find clients, how to handle the associated paperwork and legal aspects, and how to accept payment, etc.). The Organization will be uniquely positioned to further this purpose because the current board members (Michael, Christian, and Steve) are officers of Maverick Community, a fitness-focused business that leases gym space to fitness trainers. Maverick Community would permit the Organization and its Mentees to utilize its gym space for free and would encourage any fitness trainers who lease its space to volunteer to be mentors to the Organization’s Mentees. Maverick Community would not be paid anything in this arrangement, and any fitness trainers who serve as mentors would be doing so on a voluntary basis. Once a Mentee becomes a licensed trainer, there would be no expectation that they would lease fitness space from Maverick Community; the Organization would ask each Mentee to pay it forward by committing to provide several hours a week of voluntary fitness instruction in their local communities to underserved individuals who might otherwise not be able to afford fitness instruction. The activities of the Organization will be primarily conducted by one full-time employee (who has not yet been hired), who would not have any connection with Maverick Community. The employee would reach out to local junior colleges and high schools to locate individuals who have an interest in a career as a fitness trainer, would pair the Mentee with a mentor, and would facilitate and supervise the Mentee receiving all necessary training and licensing to become a licensed fitness trainer. The Organization has not yet conducted any activities other than to develop and plan what its activities will be. The next steps for the Organization will be to locate and hire a suitable employee and then begin to locate Mentees. The expectation is that Michael, Christian and Steve will stay with the Organization as officers and directors long enough to locate a good employee and work with that individual to get the Organization operating, and then would leave their positions. The directors and officers of the Organization would then likely be members of the community who have an interest in supporting the Organization. All directors and officers of the Organization will be unpaid volunteers. The Organization believes that its activities further its purpose because the Organization would be assisting individuals in underserved communities in finding gainful and rewarding employment in a field that they are interested in (which is also a field that does not require a college degree, which may not be accessible or practical for some individuals), and then encouraging those individuals to go back to their local communities to provide fitness instruction (and on a voluntary basis for several hours a week) so that individuals in those communities will be healthier.
