Goal

The Masks for Malawi fundraising campaign aims to raise funds to produce and distribute face masks in Central Malawi as the most long term and sustainable way to fight the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Malawi has an especially vulnerable population due to a high infection rate of HIV/AIDS, and other diseases that weaken the immune system like malaria. Furthermore, access to basic necessities like healthcare and clean water is often sparse and inadequate. Without access to testing or professional healthcare facilities, universal mask wearing remains the only affordable and immediate option as a long term strategy to battle the Coronavirus.

It costs us about $1 to produce a mask and distribute it in our local communities where we are working to battle COVID-19, so a donation of any size helps!

Our campaign goal of $15,000 represents over 15,000 masks for our impoverished surrounding community, and empowering wages for up to ten seamstresses that will eventually be working towards this goal.

Donations will be used to buy materials, sewing machines, and pay wages of the local seamstresses and their assistants that we employ. Seamstresses from our preexisting women's microloan programs take priority, but all local seamstresses that express desire to work with us are accepted. Those that are interested will have the opportunity to leverage Orant's resources and their newly gained wealth to expand their entrepreneurial activities to local markets.

Donations of $15 or more in the United States can request a chitenge mask of their own in the comment section. Please leave your information and we will reach out to your soon. Limit of one mask per donation.

Extra funds will be used towards expanding our COVID-19 informational campaign to local communities and for other costs of battling the novel coronavirus in Central Malawi.
